Heathrow and Stansted sit on almost opposite corners of London, which makes connecting between them one of the trickier airport transfers to plan. I’m Matty from DM Airport Transfers, and I run this route regularly. Here’s how to get from Heathrow to Stansted without the stress of multiple trains and a trek through the capital.
How Far Is It?
Heathrow is west of London and Stansted is to the northeast in Essex. By road the journey is around 60 to 65 miles, usually following the M25 around the top of London before joining the M11 up to Stansted. It’s one of the longer inter-airport hops in the London cluster.
Journey Time
A private transfer typically takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes, depending on traffic. The M25 between the Heathrow turn-off and the M11 can be congested at peak times, so I keep an eye on live conditions and your flight, adjusting the pickup and route as needed.
Why Skip Public Transport
There’s no direct train between Heathrow and Stansted — the rail route sends you through central London via Liverpool Street, which can take well over 1 hour 30 minutes with changes and luggage. The coach is direct but infrequent and slow. A private transfer is the only genuinely door-to-door option, and with bags and a connection to make, it’s by far the least stressful.
Planning a Connection
For separate-ticket bookings, allow a comfortable buffer — four hours or more between flights is wise given the distance and Stansted’s check-in times. Give me your flight details and I’ll plan around them.
Fixed Pricing
Because this is a longer route than the south-of-London hops, fares are quoted on the distance, but the price is always fixed at booking with no surprises. A standard saloon starts from £60 and an MPV from £90; for the exact fare on this route, send me your details for a quick quote.
Booking
Share your flight numbers and party size and I’ll handle the meet and greet at Heathrow and the drive up to Stansted. Child seats available on request.
