The Route and Distance
Southend sits on the Essex coast east of London; Heathrow is to the west. The drive is around 60 to 70 miles, usually taking the A127 or A13 in towards the M25 and then around London to Heathrow. It’s one of the longest journeys in the London airport network.
Journey Time
Plan for around 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on traffic and route. The M25 is the variable here, so I monitor live conditions and your flight, adjusting your pickup and choosing the cleanest route on the day.

By rail, Southend to Heathrow means a journey into central London, across the city, and out west — two hours or more with multiple changes and your bags the whole way.
