East Midlands Airport Pick-Up & Drop-Off Charges 2026

V Class Executive Taxi Transfers

As checked on 4 October 2026, East Midlands Airport’s closest kerbside-style option is the Rapid Drop Off area outside the terminal: it costs £8 for up to 10 minutes, then £1 per additional minute. It is designed for a quick set-down, not for waiting to collect an arriving passenger.

For a free option, use Long Stay 2, where pick-up and drop-off is free for up to 60 minutes. It is a substantial walk from the terminal, so it suits travellers who can walk comfortably and do not need close assistance with heavy luggage. If you want to meet someone inside or need more time, Short Stay 1 is the closer parking choice, but charges apply.

East Midlands Airport pick-up and drop-off charges at a glance

Area Best for Charge and key rule
Rapid Drop Off A very quick drop-off immediately outside the terminal £8 for up to 10 minutes, then £1 per additional minute. Maximum stay is 30 minutes.
Long Stay 2 Free pick-up or drop-off where travellers can allow extra time Free for up to 60 minutes, then £1 per minute. Allow for the walk to the terminal and check whether the seasonal shuttle is running.
Short Stay 1 Meeting an arriving passenger, accompanying someone to check-in, or a closer accessible option The airport’s dedicated pick-up/drop-off page currently lists £12 up to 30 minutes, £14 up to one hour, £18 up to two hours and £22 up to three hours.

Do not stop on airport approach roads, in bus areas, or anywhere not marked as an authorised parking or set-down area. East Midlands Airport says unauthorised stopping creates safety and congestion problems and may lead to enforcement action.

Rapid Drop Off: the nearest option to the terminal

Rapid Drop Off is the practical choice when a driver is taking a departing passenger straight to check-in and can unload promptly. Follow the airport signs for the Short Stay area and use the lane marked for Rapid Drop Off.

The important change for 2026 is that the price increased on Tuesday 29 September 2026. The previous £5-for-15-minutes tariff is no longer the current rate: it is now £8 for up to 10 minutes, followed by £1 per minute.

How Rapid Drop Off payment works

  • The area is barrierless; do not expect to pay at an exit barrier.
  • Pay online, through the automated telephone service, or by setting up an AutoPay account.
  • Payment is due by 23:59 on the day after the visit.
  • Cash and cheque payments are not accepted for Rapid Drop Off.
  • Leaving payment until later is risky: the airport states that non-payment can result in a £100 Parking Charge, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.

Rapid Drop Off is not a waiting area. The airport’s terms say that paying the tariff does not allow a driver to remain longer than is reasonably needed to drop off a passenger. If an arriving flight is delayed, choose Long Stay 2 or Short Stay 1 instead of circling around or waiting at the terminal frontage.

Free pick-up and drop-off in Long Stay 2

Long Stay 2 is the airport’s free alternative for lifts to and from East Midlands Airport. You can park there for up to 60 minutes without charge, making it the sensible choice for a collection where you want to wait for a flight to land, give passengers time to reach arrivals, or avoid a Rapid Drop Off payment.

There is a trade-off: the airport describes Long Stay 2 as around a 15- to 20-minute walk from the terminal. A shuttle bus may operate at certain times of year, but it is seasonal. The airport specifically says the shuttle does not operate from 1 November to 31 March, so do not rely on it for a winter journey. Check the airport’s current parking information on the day if a shuttle is important to your plan.

This option works best for able-bodied adults travelling light. It may be less suitable for young children, bulky pushchairs, mobility needs, large cases, or a late-night arrival after a long flight. In those circumstances, the convenience of a closer car park or an agreed private-transfer collection plan can be worth considering.

Short Stay 1: closer parking when you need to meet someone

Short Stay 1 is the more suitable airport car park when a driver needs to enter the terminal, help with luggage, or wait for an arriving passenger. It is within a short walk of the building and has clearly marked Blue Badge bays.

For Blue Badge holders, the airport states that the first 30 minutes in Short Stay 1 are free. This concession applies in Short Stay 1 rather than the Rapid Drop Off area, where normal charges apply. If assistance is needed from the car park, help points are available.

A note on Short Stay prices

There is an important pricing inconsistency in the airport information currently published. The dedicated pick-up and drop-off page lists Short Stay 1 at £12 for up to 30 minutes, while the airport’s separate turn-up parking page displays a Short Stay 1 “Drop-off or Pick-up” product from £6 for up to 30 minutes. These may reflect different products, booking routes or tariff updates, but the airport pages do not make the difference sufficiently clear.

For that reason, treat the dedicated pick-up/drop-off tariff as the relevant walk-up guide, and check the price shown during the specific pre-booking or entry process before travelling. This is especially worthwhile if you expect to stay longer than 30 minutes.

Which East Midlands Airport waiting option should you choose?

  • Dropping off a passenger who is ready to go: Rapid Drop Off is closest to the terminal, but keep unloading organised and pay by the deadline.
  • Picking up someone whose flight timing may change: Long Stay 2 gives up to an hour free, provided the walk and any seasonal shuttle arrangements are workable.
  • Meeting a passenger in arrivals or helping with bags: use Short Stay 1 and allow for parking charges.
  • Travelling with a Blue Badge holder: Short Stay 1 offers the first 30 minutes free; Rapid Drop Off does not provide the same exemption.
  • Group, family or luggage-heavy travel: plan the collection point before leaving home, rather than trying to arrange it by phone while the driver is in the airport roads.

Private-transfer planning for East Midlands Airport

Airport parking charges are only one part of the journey. A pre-booked transfer can be useful when the priority is a known collection plan rather than finding a waiting space: for example, families travelling with several cases, groups needing a 5–8 seater vehicle, or passengers arriving late after a delayed flight.

With East Midlands Airport transfers, the useful details to agree in advance are the flight number, the meeting point, the number of passengers, luggage volume, child-seat requirements and the vehicle size needed. That helps avoid sending a standard car for a group whose bags need a larger vehicle.

For outbound travel, a door-to-door private transfer also removes the need for a friend or relative to manage the Rapid Drop Off payment deadline or make the Long Stay walk. For return journeys, passengers should keep their phone on after landing and follow the collection instructions supplied for their booking. You can also explore the wider airport transfers hub when comparing travel arrangements for other UK airports.

Before you set off

  • Decide whether you are dropping off, waiting to collect, or going into the terminal.
  • Use Rapid Drop Off only for a genuinely short terminal set-down.
  • If using Rapid Drop Off, make a note to pay by 23:59 the following day unless AutoPay is active.
  • For Long Stay 2, leave enough time for the terminal walk and do not assume the shuttle will be operating.
  • For Short Stay 1, confirm the displayed tariff or pre-booked quote, particularly because published Short Stay information currently differs between airport pages.
  • Never stop on airport roads or outside marked authorised areas.

Charges, parking layouts and operating arrangements can change, so the airport’s own parking information should always be the final check before travel.
