Heathrow Airport Pick-Up Charges 2026: Every Terminal

Heathrow does not allow passenger pick-ups or waiting on its terminal forecourts. For Terminals 2, 3 and 5, the usual near-terminal collection option is Terminal Parking (formerly Short Stay), from £8 for up to 29 minutes. A lower-cost alternative is Park & Ride, which is free for the first 29 minutes but requires a shuttle-bus journey. Terminal 4 has different arrangements following the closure of its multi-storey car park on 23 June 2026: it now has a charged Priority Pick-Up area outside arrivals and a free-for-up-to-two-hours Park & Ride Zone A option.

This guide reflects Heathrow’s published arrangements and tariffs checked on 3 September 2026. If somebody else is collecting you, send them your terminal, flight number and a message once you are through customs and have your luggage. That helps avoid an expensive wait in the wrong place.

The terminal forecourt drop-off charge is not a pick-up tariff. It costs £7 each time a vehicle enters a terminal drop-off area, but waiting and picking up there are prohibited. Do not tell a driver to meet you outside departures or at the drop-off kerb.

The rule that matters most: do not arrange a forecourt pick-up

Heathrow’s forecourts are for dropping passengers off, not collecting arrivals. The airport uses number-plate recognition for the drop-off charge, and vehicles must not be left unattended. A driver who enters the forecourt has not found a legitimate waiting area for an arriving passenger.

For arrivals, agree one of the airport’s permitted parking locations instead. It is sensible to wait until the passenger has cleared passport control, collected baggage and is ready to walk to the meeting point before the driver enters the relevant parking area. Arrival times on the airport screens are not the same as being ready at the kerb.

Terminals 2, 3 and 5: Terminal Parking is the near-terminal option

At Terminals 2, 3 and 5, Terminal Parking is the most straightforward option for someone who wants to collect close to the terminal. Heathrow says these car parks are around a two-minute walk from the terminal doors. For short collection stays, drivers should take a ticket on entry and pay at a machine in the car park or at the exit; these short stays cannot be pre-booked online.

These rates apply equally to a friend or family member collecting you and to a private-hire vehicle using the public Terminal Parking car park. The passenger normally needs to walk from arrivals to the agreed car-park meeting point rather than expect a collection directly outside the terminal building.

For a pre-booked journey, it is worth confirming whether the transfer company’s quotation includes airport parking or whether parking is treated separately. The correct arrangement depends on the operator, the terminal and how much waiting time is needed. When arranging Heathrow Airport transfers, give accurate flight details, passenger numbers and luggage information so the vehicle and collection plan can be matched to the booking.

Park & Ride: free for short collections, but allow extra time

Heathrow Park & Ride car parks, previously called Long Stay, serve all terminals. For Terminals 2, 3 and 5, a drive-up pick-up stay of up to 29 minutes is free. From 30 minutes to 1 hour 59 minutes, the published charge is £9.40.

Passengers travel between the terminal and car park on Heathrow’s shuttle buses. Buses run every 15 minutes during the standard daily operating period, so this option is best when keeping the charge down matters more than meeting directly beside the terminal. Heathrow gives indicative transfer times of 10–20 minutes for Terminal 2, 10–20 minutes for Terminal 3 and 7–10 minutes for Terminal 5; build in time to find the stop, wait for the bus and load luggage as well.

Drivers using Park & Ride for a short collection should not pre-book online. Instead, they should drive in, take a ticket, use a designated pick-up space and pay on exit if the free period has been exceeded.

Blue Badge concession in Park & Ride

Heathrow states that UK and EEA Blue Badge holders can receive up to two hours’ free parking in Park & Ride car parks. The driver should use the intercom and present the Blue Badge as instructed by the airport when leaving. This concession applies to Park & Ride; it does not apply to Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up.

Terminal 4: different pick-up arrangements from 23 June 2026

Terminal 4 is the exception in 2026. Its multi-storey car park for Terminal and Meet & Greet Parking closed on 23 June 2026 as part of a redevelopment programme. That means a Terminal 2, 3 or 5-style Terminal Parking collection is no longer the normal Terminal 4 option.

1. Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up: closest to arrivals

The Priority Pick-Up area is on the arrivals level and is intended for quick, attended collections outside the terminal. It is convenient if the passenger is ready to leave, but the tariff increases quickly:

• Up to 10 minutes: £7
• 11–29 minutes: £14
• 30–60 minutes: £25
• Over 60 minutes: £25 for each additional hour or part of an hour
• Maximum daily charge: £200

There are no barriers and payment is made online, by automated telephone service or through an eligible AutoPay account by midnight on the day after the visit. Drivers must not leave a vehicle unattended. Blue Badge discounts and exemptions do not apply in this area.

2. Terminal 4 Park & Ride Zone A: the no-charge alternative

For a longer or less time-critical Terminal 4 collection, use Park & Ride Zone A. Heathrow’s Terminal 4-specific arrangement allows up to two hours free there, followed by £9.40 for 2–4 hours. Shuttle buses run between Zone A and the terminal, and Heathrow advises that they run every five minutes for this Terminal 4 service.

This is generally the more suitable choice if the person collecting needs to go into the terminal, if an arriving passenger may need extra time, or if accessibility and luggage make a rushed kerbside collection unsuitable.

What private-hire passengers should agree before landing

A booked private transfer should have a clear collection plan, but passengers can make it work more smoothly by checking the practical details before travel:

• Confirm the terminal: Heathrow has four passenger terminals, and a last-minute terminal change can affect the meeting point.
• Use the flight number: it is more useful than an estimated landing time when an operator is planning collection.
• Know the meeting method: this may be a call or message once you have bags, a named meeting point inside the terminal, or an agreed car-park location.
• Keep your phone usable: connect to airport Wi-Fi if needed and make sure the booking has a contact number that will work in the UK.
• Be realistic about baggage: families, ski bags, pushchairs and several large cases may need a larger vehicle and longer loading time.
• Do not change the meeting point unilaterally: airport roads and permitted collection areas are controlled. Contact the driver or operator first.

Licensed private-hire drivers may use Heathrow’s Authorised Vehicle Area (AVA) to wait before a collection, but that is a driver facility rather than a passenger meeting point. It is restricted to authorised private-hire operators and licensed taxis. Passengers should still expect the actual collection to take place from an approved car park or the Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up area, as arranged with their provider.

Choosing the right Heathrow collection option

Choose Terminal Parking at Terminals 2, 3 or 5 when a close, simpler collection is worth the parking charge and the passenger can walk to the car park.

Choose Park & Ride when the collector can allow for the shuttle bus, wants to use the free period, or is meeting an arrival who may take longer to emerge.

Choose Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up only when a prompt, attended collection close to arrivals is needed and the passenger is ready to leave. Otherwise, Terminal 4 Park & Ride Zone A provides substantially more free waiting time.
