The Route and Distance
Southend sits on the Essex coast east of London; Gatwick is to the south in West Sussex. The drive is around 61 to 63 miles, usually taking the A127 in towards the M25, round the eastern arc past the Dartford Crossing, and then the M23 south to Gatwick.
Journey Time
Plan for around 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on traffic. The Dartford Crossing is the main variable, so I monitor live conditions and your flight, adjusting your pickup and choosing the cleanest route on the day.
Why Not Public Transport
By rail, Southend to Gatwick means a journey into central London, across the city, and out south — well over 1 hour 40 minutes with multiple changes and your bags the whole way. A private transfer takes you straight from the Southend terminal to your Gatwick terminal, with luggage help throughout and no timetables.
Connecting Flights
